A Newsletter For People Who Want
A Beautiful Garden

Landscape design and garden creation are wonderful endeavours. They can also be frustrating, discouraging and unsatisfying.

What makes the process of creating landscapes for some a pure joy and for others a discouraging disappointment? It's very simple:

The key to success is knowing what you're doing and why you're doing it... in other words, understanding the principles behind successful landscape design.

  • What are the salient principles of good design and how do we apply them to the sites we have to work with?

  • How do we even find the right design approach?

  • What is the design process that leads us to the ultimate goal of a beautiful garden?
Those are the questions our newsletter, Garden Views, answers twice a month, with Before, In-progress and After pictures of well-designed gardens.  One reason that there are not more wonderful gardens is because the wrong standard has been established and consequently, people don't even realize how much is possible on any given property. Drive through any suburban neighborhood and this becomes all too obvious.

Every two weeks you'll receive a wealth of information on all facets of landscape design and garden creation. You'll learn artful and practical methods for creating beautiful gardens, you'll see these principles applied to real garden sites with Before, In-progress and After images.

We'll be presenting all manner of gardens – difficult sites such as narrow or sloped properties, terraced gardens, front yard and back yard gardens, patio gardens, gardens with water features as key components, rural properties and estate gardens. In this newsletter you'll see how important structure is in a garden – that a garden means more than just a pretty display of plants. You'll learn the value and great variety possible creating gardens for outdoor living. And you'll be invited to share your projects with our growing community of garden lovers.

Have a project that's giving you trouble?

It is our experience that every site, no matter its size or condition, is a place waiting to have its beauty realized and released. That understanding is the prerequisite for inspired design. Contact us with your questions and comments and we'll make sure we answer them in the newsletter.

If you have a garden design project you want help with, send us pictures and a description of what you intend with the space, and we'll work with you to find the right design solutions. And, if you like, we'll share the results with the other members of this enthusiastic community.

Why are we giving so much away?

The reasons are twofold. Our combined experience of more than half a century has given us a great deal to offer, and I, for one, don't like to see all this knowledge go to waste. Sharing is a good thing. Also, by providing as much knowledge and understanding about garden creation as we can, we hope to raise the standard of gardens, so that there'll be many more beautiful gardens around and driving through the world of suburbia won't be so depressing.

That's the altruistic part. In addition, if we make this site the best of its kind, more people will visit more often, and that helps our online visibility.

So join us in this exciting and rewarding adventure into the wonderful world of landscape design and garden creation.

Warmly,
